Multiple User Virtual Environments
I personally have quite a lot of experience using both MUVE's and gaming technologies. Having played many MMOs as well as the more recent crop of MOBAs and other such games, I have many thoughts on quite a few of them. While I don't play any of them regularly anymore, mostly due to the time sink that so many of them become, I don't begrudge anyone for their use. In terms of gaming technologies though, I still play games quite often, I just tend to avoid games that could be considered MUVE's.
In terms of their use in library's, I think that with video games and gaming technologies becoming as ubiquitous as they are, that library's should really consider investing in a game collection, or perhaps work on agreements with game publishers to act as intermediaries. Games are, or will soon be, as ubiquitous as movies, tv, and books. With this being the case, there is a very strong case to be made that libraries and library professionals would be missing the chance to fill the needs of a large portion of their patron base.
